I’m Ariel Valls — a Barcelona-based visual artist working between photography, direction and spatial installation. My practice explores intimacy, migration and Mediterranean identity through chiaroscuro, analogue grain and slow looking.
Formerly assistant in fashion ateliers in Paris and London, I returned to Catalonia to build an independent studio. Today I collaborate with magazines, cultural institutions, musicians and families who want more than a “photoshoot” — they want a visual memoir. Every commission starts with conversation, walks, and light tests. No rushed poses. No plastic retouch.
Approach
Slow, cinematic, honest
Medium format + 35mm film, natural light first, studio strobes sculpted like Caravaggio. Minimal retouch, maximum soul.
